In September 2016 the Amefa company celebrated its 85th anniversary!
Amefa history
On 19 September 1931 Eugen Hollaender, at the age of 25, established the “Apeldoornsche Messenfabriek N.V. Haagse Import Maatschappij Olanda”. Together with a few employees Eugen started producing razor blades.
In 1948, production at the factory was split 50% razor blades and 50% cutlery. Due to increasing competition from Gillette and the introduction of electric razors by Philips, the share of production cutlery to razor blades was changed considerably to 75 % cutlery and 25% razor blades. In the following years the production of razor blades gradually came to an end.
In 1966 Amefa Solingen was established in Germany. The first of many major expansions to follow! Between 1988 and 2000 Amefa expanded considerably. Subsidiaries were opened in the UK, Poland, Hong Kong, France, Spain and Italy. The company grew into one of the biggest players in the international cutlery market.
From 2000, Amefa took over a lot of well-known international brands such as Couzon, Richardson Sheffield, Cuisinox, Paul Wirths, Lou Laguiole, Kuppels and many others. With all these products Amefa is able to operate in international set table markets.
Amefa today
Today Amefa is a company that constantly innovates. In 2015 Amefa introduced a new cutlery set - Integral. Integral has been specifically developed for people with limited gripping ability and wrist movement.
From a national manufacturer of razor blades in the Netherlands, Amefa has become one of the leading European suppliers of tableware and kitchenware.
We are proud of what we have achieved and look forward to the future with enthusiasm.
