1839
Founded in Sheffield by Westall Richardson.
He set up his own craft workshop in Sheffield – one of dozens in the world-famous cutlery industry of the city. The company survived and quietly thrived.
1960
Richardson launches the first wooden knife block.
1970
Westall Richardson launched his very first knife advertising campaign with WL – a move that shook the entire hardware industry.
1979
Introduction of the "Laser" knife series, the first "sharpening-free" knife guaranteed never to need sharpening.
1984
Renaming to Richardson Sheffield Ltd.
1991
More than 50 million laser knives have been produced. Richardson Sheffield held a 22% market share in the United Kingdom and exported to 70 countries. Richardson Sheffield was the largest kitchen knife manufacturer in the European Community and employed as many workers as the rest of the knife industry in Sheffield combined.
2005
Richardson Sheffield is becoming a privately owned company.
2007
The Richardson Sheffield brand becomes part of Amefa.
2013
Our 1839 knife series is launched, designed, and manufactured in Sheffield.
2017
We are proudly opening our first Richardson Sheffield pilot store in The Lanes at Meadowhall, Sheffield.
2024
Switch to a fully paper-based hanging card packaging for all individual knives to minimize waste.
